About Us

Since opening in 2006, devotees of Mike’s rural restaurant and pub, the Pot Kiln, have been queuing up to learn how to butcher rabbits, prep game birds and rediscover the art of smoking, curing and preserving.


Although we are teaching skills that are slowly dying out, there is nothing old-fashioned about our high tech kitchen, with its shiny Silestone microban worktops and De Dietrich appliances which include induction hobs and self-cleaning multifunction ovens.  We have plenty of elbow room for up to 12 people per course and can accommodate up to sixteen for demonstrations.  All of our courses finish on a high with a jolly good feast of the group’s own making in our hunting lodge-style dining room.


The cookery school is a popular destination for team-building days out, private dinners and parties, corporate meetings and stag and hen parties. The dining room comfrotably seats up to 24. We can also arrange weekend packages with the Royal Berkshire Shooting School.
