Is It Best to Cook with Softened Water or Natural Mineral Water?

We’ve always thought that water is the simplest form of liquid but it’s far from being a simple liquid. Water consists of minerals as well as some vitamins. There are two types of water: hard and soft. Hard Water

Hard water is natural water that contains a considerable amount of minerals. Minerals are good for our bodies. Magnesium and calcium are the two most common minerals found in hard water. These minerals are needed by the body to perform well. Calcium is essential in bone and teeth building, and magnesium is important in keeping the body energized. But these minerals are not the only components of hard water, and this is where the disadvantages begin.

Extremely hard water, or water that has a very high amount of minerals are bad for plumbing. The minerals can form inside water pipes, which in time may form and eventually clog the pipes where water passes through. Another con in using hard water is that it makes cleaning materials such as detergents and soaps less effective.

Hard water does not produce enough lather or suds, which makes you use more detergent, proving it to be a lot more expensive. Another disadvantage of hard water is when you use it in dishwashing, spots form on the dishes, as well as rings on tubs and faucets. Your hair may also become dull when washing it with hard water.

Soft Water

But using soft water for a prolonged period also has detrimental effects to the environment. Watering plants using soft water will shorten their lives because of too much sodium. Too much salt is also toxic to the soil.

Hard Water vs. Soft Water in Cooking

Although both types of water may be used in cooking, you have to take into consideration some things. When using hard water in cooking food, the minerals may affect the food you are cooking. Extremely hard water makes vegetables and fruits hard, but if the minerals in the hard water are just the right amount, fruits and vegetables become firm and easier to chew and digest. Soft water, on the other hand, contains sodium, so you may want to lessen the salt you will use in cooking your food. Otherwise your cooked food will taste saltier than it should be.

With this said, it is best to use natural mineral water in cooking because it has just the right amount of minerals and it also tastes better, thus making your food taste better too.
